James "Slim" Hand • July 7, 1952-June 8, 2020
Though he'd been making powerful original Country music since his teens, until 2005 James Hand had unjustly remained one of American music's secret treasures - a local legend in Texas, modestly plying his craft in countless smoky dives and dancehalls to a slowly widening circle of admirers. What he did, he did straight from his heart, taking the hard-won lessons that life and love had taught him and pouring them into his songwriting and performing.
The Legendary James Hand
The Slim Hand Music Foundation
In honor of the way that James Hand lived his life, and as a reminder of how he helped people across many spectrums of his life, we began this foundation as one of his last requests to ensure that his music legacy lived on long after he was gone. At the Slim Hand Music Foundation, (or as we lovingly call it, the "Helping Hand" foundation) we use the power of music to create positive change in musicians of all ages. We provide resources and guidance to help musicians in all aspects of their lives, and we also offer scholarships to up and coming musicians who demonstrate a commitment to their craft and an interest in giving back to their community. We are here to make a difference in the music community.
